and she didn’t want us to sing.

It was her birthday yesterday. That best friend of mine, Ali. She doesn’t like cupcakes or frosting but I made her some anyway. They were vanilla vanilla. They had a butterscotch drizzle. They looked like starbucks frozen drink cupcakes.

Oh alison erika, where do I start?

You count like this : thumb, index, middle, pinkie, ring. It’s awesome.

You’re a hippie. It’s 2011.

You smile bigger than the sun shines. It makes me happy.

You always know the right thing to say. I wish everyone was like that.

Oh yeah, now you’re seventeen.

-1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar

-1/2 stick unsalted butter

-2 cups milk

-1/4 cup +2 Tbsp flour

-scant teaspoon salt

-4 eggs, slightly beaten

-1 tsp vanilla

In a heavy bottomed saucepan, combine butter and sugar over low heat. Stir constantly on low until sugar is dissolved, about ten minutes.

Whisk in one cup of milk until well combined.

In separate bowl, combine the rest of the milk with the flour and salt. Add to mixture and continue cooking over low until thickened, about five minutes.

Quickly whisk in eggs so they do not scramble, cook for another 5 minutes on medium low heat.

Remove from heat and cool to room temperature, stirring every few minutes. Add vanilla, cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

Happy Birthday AliErika. Hope you like seventeen.
